On Sunday 8th June 2025, Darlington’s South Park was awash with pink, as hundreds of participants came together for the annual Race for Life, raising vital funds for Cancer Research UK. Runners, walkers, and joggers of all ages took on the 5K course, many wearing the names of loved ones they were honouring or remembering.
The event was a powerful display of community spirit and determination, with participants donning pink tutus, feather boas, and heartfelt messages. The atmosphere was electric, as supporters lined the route, cheering on friends and strangers alike. Stories of survival, remembrance, and hope echoed throughout the park, reminding everyone why this cause matters so deeply.
Among the crowd were first-time runners and seasoned fundraisers, all united by a common goal – to help beat cancer. Social media buzzed with praise and encouragement, with many sharing personal stories and celebrating the achievements of those who took part.
With over £65,000 raised, the 2025 Darlington Race for Life was not just a race—it was a heartfelt celebration of unity, courage, resilience, community, and the power of coming together.
Of course, these events rely on a dedicated team of local volunteers who help guide participants, ensure safety, and cheer everyone on throughout the course, and it was an honour for Quakers Running Club to be asked again. Well done to our amazing volunteer marshals who guided, cheered, and kept everyone safe with smiles and encouragement every step of the way.
Well done to every participant, supporter, and fundraiser – this fabulous event was another step toward to beating cancer.
Afterwards, Race for Life organiser Victoria emailed,
“I just wanted to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU to everyone who came along yesterday, we really couldn’t do these events without you all and our participants love the atmosphere you guys create out on course.
Overall, we saw 848 participants take part in the 3k and 5k and they have so far raised £65,450!
We have next year’s event date secured for Sunday 7th June, so I hope to see you all again there.”
And a final note from Rob, QRC Club Chairman,
“Once again Quakers shine at the Race for Life. A huge thank you to our army of high-viz volunteers this morning. You were all fantastic in your support for this event and to all the participants as they made their way round the course, helping to clear away the signs etc and cheering the last people across the finish line. It is always an emotional and inspiring event and one that I know we are always proud to support and something that the organisers are delighted that we get involved in as it takes a lot of the responsibility from them so they can concentrate on the people taking part. Thank you very much to Lisa B for all her hard work organising everyone and co-ordinating us. Well done Team Quakers.”
